Epicor is following up on its cloud-based Epicor ERP Express Edition product -- and revealing its enterprise software ambitions -- with a new edition for midsized organizations.
The Chicago-based enterprise resource planning software specialist today unveiled Epicor ERP, a multi-tenant software-as-a-service (SaaS) offering aimed at midmarket manufacturers, distributors and service organizations. Having cuts its teeth on providing cloud ERP services for smaller enterprises, the firm has its sights set on getting bigger customers on its platform, says Chad Meyer, director of product marketing for Epicor.
It's a natural extension for the company as it seeks to expand into new markets following the merger of Epicor and Activant in 2010. The deal, engineered by private equity firm Apax Partners, combined the IP of Activant, which specialized in ERP software for retailers and distributors, with Epicor's ERP solutions for retail, manufacturing, distribution, and hospitality. The Epicor-Activant deal was valued at $2 billion and closed last year.
Today the combined company, now operating as Epicor Software Corp., is signaling that its software can handle the rigors of bigger, more complex businesses.
"Based on the market response and success with Epicor ERP Express Edition, our SaaS ERP offering for smaller manufacturers and distributors, we're excited to now extend our ERP cloud solutions to larger organizations," says Meyer.
Not Just Cloud
While the market faces increased demand for cloud-based ERP solutions, Epicor is keeping its options open for customers by using a single code that supports a variety of implementations and assures compatibility, Meyer says.
It's a strategy that helps resolve a stumbling block for potential cloud ERP buyers, namely the functionality gap between on-premise and cloud solutions. In addition to streamlining business processes, Epicor's cloud-enabled ERP platform offers embedded business intelligence features for real-time business metrics and insights.
