Siebel Makes Smarter Easier

More control, more functions, more compatibility, more ease sum up the company's latest iteration of business intelligence software.

With the Tuesday release of Siebel Enterprise Analytic Platform 7.7, customers now have an easier time making the intelligent choices.

Officials at Siebel Systems, Inc. , say the latest version wrings more competitive advantage for its customers, while making it easier to control the functions that bring the business intelligence and analytics.

Analysts from some investment firms believe the business of business intelligence will remain flat for some time, as companies looking for software are going to be looking at back-end solutions like customer relationship management (CRM), supply chain management (SCM) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) for their organization.

Siebel is also a believer in infrastructure; in fact, the company has a vested interest in it through its Siebel CRM OnDemand, a program it partnered with IBM at the beginning of the month. The pay-as-you-go service is targeted at the small- to medium-sized enterprise who couldn't normally afford an end-to-end software solution.

But officials believe infrastructure, with the efficiencies it creates, is only half the equation. The other half is making the information you have at you disposal work for the organization.

As such, the Analytic Platform 7.7 is chock-full of functions and enhancements to make business intelligence easier.

Analytics are only as good as the person's ability to analyze the information and use it to their advantage. Siebel's dashboards are software tools that give end users a visual representation of the information they are gleaning, whether its the number of complaints for a certain part or downtime on the intranet.

Using Siebel Delivers, another platform function, when a dashboard or any other tool reaches a certain threshold, it will notify anyone in the organization -- whether it's by pager, cell phone, fax or email. Another tool, Siebel Answers, lets users manage information the way they want to, not how the software wants.

"Siebel Analytics provides a unique combination of true end user ease with powerful analytic capabilities and best-in-class scalability," said James Holder, Union Pacific Railroad director of engineering systems. "These unique capabilities have enabled us to provide actionable, timely information to more than 4,000 users -- in a very complex, data intensive environment. As a result we are delivering significant business value with an exceptionally low total cost of ownership."
